Coeur d'Alene,ID : Wrong-way drunk driver arrested in northern Idaho on August, Saturday 19th 2017
A Washington state man that northern Idaho authorities say drove the wrong way on Interstate 90 and nearly collided with an Idaho State Police trooper transporting a prisoner has been taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office says police arrested 46-year-old Shannon M. Defrance of Spokane at about 2 a.m. Saturday.
Police say they closed the eastbound on-ramps and activated emergency lights as Defrance approached in the wrong lane at freeway speeds in a silver Mercedes coupe.
Police say Defrance stopped and told deputies he was too drunk to be driving. Police say he failed a field sobriety test with a blood-alcohol content of twice the legal limit.
Defrance was booked into the Kootenai County Jail.
He’s also facing a misdemeanor charge of driving with an invalid driver’s license.
