Staunton,VA : Man killed in Augusta County wreck on January, Saturday 20th 2018
Virginia State Police said a man was was killed Saturday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 81.
Alcohol was a factor, according to a press release.
Police said the crash took place shortly after 3 p.m. at mile marker 226.
A 2006 Ford Mustang was headed south on I-81 when it ran off the right side of the interstate and struck a guardrail. The impact of the crash caused the car to spin across the southbound lanes, run off the left side of the interstate and strike a second guardrail, according to a press release.
The car came to rest in the southbound lanes of I-81.

The driver, Ian S. Vowels, 22, of Bealeton, was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence
The Mustang’s passenger, Ryland M.D. Cox, 21, of Catlett, died at the scene.
Police said neither man was using a seatbelt.
The crash remains under investigation.
