Fond du Lac, WI : Five people injured, two critically in a chain-reaction crash on U.S. Highway 41 near Fond du Lac on Wednesday, April 15, 2015

Two Fond du Lac residents received life-threatening injuries Wednesday during a four-vehicle crash along Interstate 41 that shut down the highway for six hours.

The crash occurred around 2 p.m. in the southbound lane of I-41 south of Highway 00/Winnebago Drive in the Town of Fond du Lac.

A vehicle driven by Sudhaker Ingle, 72, of Fond du Lac, slowed down for road construction and was struck from behind by an International truck, causing a chain reaction. The vehicle was subsequently pushed into two additional vehicles.

Ingle was transported to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac with life-threatening injuries while Neelima Ingle, 69, who was a passenger in his car, was flown by helicopter to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah for treatment of her life-threatening injuries.

Three other people were hurt in the crash, but their injures are not considered life-threatening. Adam Burlock, 24, of Milwaukee, Christopher Rouse, 47, of Hartford, and Sandra Thompson, 66, of Little Chute, each were transported to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.

Burlock was the driver of the International truck.

A detour was set up along the highway in Winnebago County.

Law enforcement was reporting excessive delays over three miles along I-41 southbound, starting at Highway 26 in Oshkosh due to a traffic incident.

Interstate 41 reopened to traffic at 8 p.m.

The state patrol accident reconstruction team was at the scene.
