Reading, PA : Reading man seriously injured in motorcycle crash on Tuesday, September 5, 2017
A 33-year-old Reading man was seriously injured when he was thrown from a motorcycle after colliding with an SUV in the Spring Street Subway following a road-rage incident, city police said Tuesday.
The crash happened about 8:30 p.m. Monday, moments after an argument between the motorcyclist and a motorist not involved in the collision, said Sgt. Darrin Dougherty of the criminal investigations division. The motorcyclist, whose name police withheld, was eastbound from North Sixth Street toward North Eight Street with a group of motorcycle riders. Witnesses said the bikers were riding recklessly.
At an access road to a store, the motorcyclist and the female motorist who was eastbound on Spring Street got into a heated verbal exchange. He got off his motorcycle, kicked the side of her car, got back on the bike and took off at a high speed toward the tunnel under the Norfolk Southern Railroad.
"Once under the bridge he loses control of the motorcycle, goes into the oncoming lane and hits the driver side of an SUV coming west under the bridge," Dougherty said.
The motorcyclist wasn't wearing a helmet. The other driver wasn't injured.
The motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to Reading Hospital. Information about his medical condition could not be obtained, but police said they received information that he is in critical condition.
An investigation continues.
