AUBURNDALE, FL : 1 dead, another in critical condition in crash that closes part of US 92 in Auburndale on Wednesday, December 7th, 2016

One person was killed and another is in critical condition after a car and semi collided Wednesday, closing down part of U.S. 92, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.Juanita Callaway, 84, was pronounced dead at the scene while her husband, John Callaway, 89, both of Bomber Road in Bartow, was taken to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center where he is in critical condition, said Donna Wood, agency spokeswoman.
The crash occurred about 12:50 p.m. when John Callaway drove his Chevrolet Impala into the path of a 2013 Freightliner with a trailer, witnesses told investigators.
Callaway was making a left-hand turn from U.S. 92 to Dairy Road and drove in front of Reginald Covington, 59, who was driving the Freightliner west on U.S. 92, Wood said. Juanita Callaway was the passenger in the Impala.
Covington was uninjured in the crash.
