NEW YORK, NY : Police say in-line skater killed, 5 injured by driver in NYC on April, Saturday 8th 2017

Police say an in-line skater was killed and five people were injured when a speeding driver lost control of his car in Brooklyn.

The crash happened shortly after 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the Brownsville neighborhood.

Police say a man on in-line roller skates was hit by a sedan as he crossed the street.

They say the sedan kept going and rear-ended two cars at a stop sign. Then it hit a van and two parked cars.

The driver got out and ran but was arrested a short time later. Charges are pending. His name was not immediately released.

The skater was pronounced dead. His name withheld pending notification of his family.

Police say five people from the vehicles that were hit sustained injuries. Their conditions were not immediately available.
