KONAWA, OK : Konawa council woman killed in ATV crash on Saturday, July 9, 2017
The City of Konawa is mourning the death of a councilwoman who was killed Saturday night in an ATV crash.
The crash was reported at about 10:45 p.m. on a private property on State Highway 99 North about four miles north of Byng in Pontotoc County.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a Honda Rincon ATV driven by 30-year-old Christopher L.D. Barton was southbound in a pasture when it hit a telephone pole for an unknown reason. Both Barton and his passenger, 30-year-old Tiffany Z. Barton, were thrown off the ATV.
Christopher was taken to Mercy Hospital in Ada. He was treated and released.
Tiffany, who is a councilwoman in Konawa, was pronounced dead at the scene due to a massive head injury sustained in the collision.
The crash remains under investigation.
The City of Konawa released a statement on its official Facebook page, saying,
“We at the City of Konawa are in disbelief of the tragic news of Councilwoman Tiffany Barton today. Her smile, positive energy, and kind heart will truly be missed in our community. We offer our most deep and sincere condolences to her family and loved ones during this time of loss.”
