Memphis, TN : Man dead after hitting tree on Lamar Ave early Saturday morning, June 4, 2016

A man is dead after a crash at Lamar Avenue and Shelley Street early Saturday morning.

Police said the car hit a tree in the 2700 block of Lamar Avenue in the parking lot of St. John Catholic School.

Investigators said the driver was going eastbound on Lamar Avenue when he went into on-coming traffic, hit a curb, and hit a tree.

Officers said a paramedic told them the driver died on the scene.

Police identified the driver as Willie Young, 46.
