MONTVILLE TWP, NJ : Multiple injuries in crash on I-71 on Sunday, 14th October 2018
A multiple-vehicle collision involving a jackknifed semitrailer resulted in the closure of Interstate 71 southbound at mile marker 217 for several hours Sunday afternoon, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
A news release from the highway patrol stated that John Shirey, 52, of Saulsbury, Tennesee, was driving north on I-71 in a 2017 Kenworth semi-tractor trailer. The Kenworth swerved to the left and hit a 2018 Nissan Rogue driven by Kenneth Smith, 38, of Cleveland Heights. Both vehicles hit the guardrail and went off the road. The Nissan overturned and came to rest in the median, while the Kenworth went through the median into oncoming southbound traffic, hitting a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Timothy Hay, 49, of Victor, New York. The Kenworth then struck the sound barrier wall and stopped.
