Allentown, PA : Five injured in yet another Route 145 crash in North Whitehall on Thursday, January, 4th 2018

ive people were injured Thursday night in North Whitehall Township when a pickup truck and car collided at a Route 145 intersection.

The accident was reported 6:05 p.m. at Clearview Road and Route 145 in the Laurys Station area. It wasn’t far from where a car crashed Wednesday on Route 145.

After the Thursday accident, the driver and passenger from the pickup truck were taken by ambulance to a hospital. Three who were injured in the car turned down medical treatment.

The Laurys Station Fire Company assisted at the accident scene.

Laurys Station fire Chief Robin Hood said the two Route 145 accidents had little in common. On Wednesday, a single car crashed when it hit a patch of ice, he said.

In that accident, a woman was southbound, about a half-mile north of Clearview Road. After her car slid on the ice, it rolled down an embankment. The woman was taken to the hospital.

Hood said winter ice is common on that part of Route 145 because of a roadside spring that sends water onto the road.

“There’s a spring on that side of the street, in the rocks,” he said. “Water is constantly coming out of there, and when it comes out in the cold, it starts to freeze and forms ice on the road.”

After the Wednesday crash, he said, a snowplow was sent out to break up the ice.

He did not have information on the condition of those injured in the two Route 145 accidents. State police are investigating.
