Royal Lakes, IL : Driver and passenger ejected from vehicle in Macoupin County crash on Saturday, February 25, 2017

Illinois State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday in which both driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle.

At 3:01 p.m., a 2006 Pontiac passenger car was traveling southbound on Illinois Route 159 just north of Illinois Route 138 when it left the roadway and hit a ditch embankment. After striking the embankment, the vehicle struck a tree, according to a release from ISP District 18 Trooper Heath Bryan.

Upon hitting the tree, both driver Rudolph Jackson, 52, of Royal Lakes and passenger Denita Hidden, 36, of Gillespie were ejected from the vehicle. Jackson was transported to Barnes-Jewish Hospital by Survival Flight Helicopter Service, and Hidden was transported to Alton Memorial Hospital by Alton Memorial Ambulance Service. Both are expected to survive, Bryan said.
