DANVERS, MA : Off-duty officer spots crash on Saturday, 1st September 2018

It would have been tough for first responders to spot a car that veered off Route 128 north into the woods Saturday without the help of an off-duty police officer who happened to see the crash, according to Peabody fire Lt. Russ Lewis.

Off-duty Cambridge police Officer John Jones was riding on his motorcycle when he saw a white Honda HR-V veer into the woods just south of exit 24, the Endicott Street exit near the Liberty Tree Mall, Lewis said. No other cars stopped, he said, but Jones climbed through mud, grass, and weeds and stayed with a woman trapped inside the vehicle until help came.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. Jones was not immediately available for comment Saturday afternoon.

According to state police on scene, the woman sustained minor injuries from the crash.
