Clear Brook, VA : S.C. tractor trailer driver killed in wreck on I-81 at Rest Church Road on Tuesday, October 25, 2016

A 33-year-old South Carolina man was killed Tuesday when the tractor-trailer he was driving rear-ended another truck on Interstate 81, Virginia State Police said.

Agency spokesman Sgt. F.L. "Les" Tyler said Sergey Onufriychuk, of Spartanburg, S.C., was driving a 2007 Volvo tractor trailer northbound on I-81 near exit 323 at Rest Church Road (Va. 669) around 3 p.m. when he rear-ended a 2013 Freightliner that had reportedly slowed in the right lane.

Onufriychuk was taken to Winchester Medical Center, where he died upon arrival, Tyler said. No other injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

All northbound lanes of the interstate were closed for roughly one hour, Tyler said.

The direct cause of the crash is under investigation.
