El Paso, TX : Jesus Ponce, 55, died in wreck in East El Paso on Wednesday, April 6, 2016

El Paso police have released the name of a man killed in an accident Wednesday in East El Paso.

Jesus Ponce, 55, was driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am north on Oasis Drive when he attempted to turn onto the eastbound lane of Montana Avenue and got in the way of a 2004 GMC Yukon, officials said.

The Yukon, which was being driven by Juan Acevedo, collided with the Grand Am. The accident occurred at about 4 p.m.

Ponce died at the scene due to injuries he sustained in the crash, police said.

Acevedo and two teenage passengers in the Yukon were not injured.

Police said no charges against Acevedo are pending at this time.

Ponce's death is the 22nd traffic fatality in 2016, compared with 13 at the same time last year, police said.
