Van Buren , NY : two tractor-trailers jackknifed during a snowstorm along Interstate 90 on wednesday morning, December 2014

State police say a 31-mile westbound stretch of the Thruway has reopened after being shut down west of Syracuse when two tractor-trailers jackknifed during a snowstorm.

Troopers say the first crash occurred around 10:50 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 90's westbound side between exits 39 and 40 in the town of Van Buren, just west of Syracuse. Police say there are reports of one person suffering a minor injury.

Police say the second accident occurred about an hour later between exits 40 and 41 in the town of Mentz, 17 miles west of the first crash.

Both crash scenes were cleared and all lanes reopened by 1:20 p.m.

Westbound traffic was kept from entering the highway at exits 37, 38 and 39 following the first crash.

Troopers say blowing snow and icy road conditions are believed to have caused both crashes.
