THOMASVILLE, GA : Thomasville High School senior died from a fatal wreck on May, Thursday, 18th 2017
A Thomasville High School senior died from a fatal wreck early Thursday morning, according to reports.
Travis Island, 19, the driver of a 2002 Jaguar, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to Georgia State Patrol Post 12 Commander Sgt. 1st Tommy Peeples.
"The vehicle was traveling northbound on U.S. 319, coming from Tallahassee," Peeples said.
Ajia Williams, 18, Thomasville, was the passenger.
According to Peeples, Williams said Island fell asleep at the wheel and she went to wake him up.
Island awoke and took the wheel and overcorrected and overturned into a ditch on the east shoulder.
"The vehicle then struck a tree where it came to a final rest," Peeples said.
Williams was taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital by Thomas County Emergency Medical Services.
Island was set to graduate on Friday.
City Schools Superintendent Sabrina Boykins-Everett made the announcement of Island's passing on Thursday morning.
"The Thomasville City Schools' family is truly devastated by the loss of one of our students," Boykins-Everett said. "Throughout the day, our staff and students have had the benefit of counseling support from our district counselors, professional counselors from our community, as well as area school district counselors. Our prayers and condolences go out to his family at this very difficult time."
