Manitou Springs, Colorado
A 38-year-old man died late Wednesday in a single-vehicle rollover crash on U.S. 24 just west of Colorado Springs.
Michael J. Horath, of Matawan, N.J., was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash after being ejected from a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck.
The Colorado State Patrol said Horath was eastbound on U.S. 24, 2 miles west of Manitou Springs, when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve.
“The Dodge traveled off the right side of the roadway, colliding with a delineator post and a mile-marker sign,” the State Patrol said in a news release. “The Dodge then re-entered the roadway and traveled across both eastbound lanes and off the left side of the road, where it traveled down a dirt embankment, rolling one time while ejecting the driver.”
Horath was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, the State Patrol said. Troopers suspect alcohol was a factor in the wreck.
The crash remains under investigation.
