CRESTVIEW, FL : Crestview man killed in early morning crash on Saturday, 21st April 2018

A 30-year-old Crestview man was killed early Saturday morning when the car in which he was riding hit another vehicle nearly head-on.

Derek Varner was not wearing a seat belt at the time, according to the Florida Highway Patrol media release. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was a passenger in a car driven by Calvin Wilks, a 28-year-old Crestview man. Wilks was not injured, the release said. The passenger side of his car took the brunt of the impact.

The crash was alcohol related, according to the release.

An individual in the other car was critically injured. The 19-year-old Crestview woman’s name was not released pending next of kin, the release said. She was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
