Wye Mills, MD : Easton woman injured in Rt. 50 crash on Sunday, April 24, 2016

An Easton woman had to be cut from her car after she crashed it into a guardrail and a telephone pole along U.S. Route 50 west just past the state Route 404 intersection about 7:15 p.m. Sunday evening, April 24, according to Maryland State Police.

Merrie Delauder, 51, was the only occupant in the silver, 2012 Honda Odyssey, said Tfc. R. Isabelle. She was extricated from the car by Queenstown Volunteer Fire Department, he said, then flown by MSP helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment.

Isabelle said Delauder was conscious and talking when she was loaded on the helicopter Sunday night, and Karen Lancaster, a spokesman for the shock trauma center, said Delauder was in fair condition Monday night.

During the crash, Delauder drove through the yard of Chad and Tiffany Wayson, where Tiffany and their son were looking for catepillars.

“... nothing like almost watching your wife almost get run over in our own front yard,” Chad Wayson wrote in a post on the Bay Times Facebook page. He said it was lucky she did not hit any of his children.

Two other cars were damaged by flying debris when Delauder’s car struck the guardrail and telephone pole, Isabelle said. One was silver, E350 Ford van driven by Michael Dawkins, 51, of Beltsville, and the other a black Chevrolet Suburban driven by Carlos Salvato, 66, of Damascus, police said.
Route 50 west was closed between state Route 404 and Md. Route 213 for more than three hours following the crash.

The investigation is ongoing, Isabelle said.
