Truck Crash On Snarls Traffic in Santa California

A crash involving a moving truck on eastbound state Route 52 in the Santee area prompted a Sig Alert and backed up traffic for an extended period Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened shortly before 1 p.m. on eastbound SR-52 at Santo Road when a Budget rental truck crashed into the center-divide, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver's legs were pinned in the truck, and it took nearly 30 minutes for emergency crews to extricate him.
A Mercy Air helicopter landed on the freeway to transport the man, prompting the closure of eastbound lanes for a brief period.
Due to debris remaining on eastbound SR-52, the CHP issued a Sig Alert.

The CHP reported many drivers began turning around and going the wrong way on the freeway to avoid the traffic congestion.
Additionally, a fire truck responding to the crash broke down due to mechanical problems, adding to the traffic mess.
The incident was fully cleared by 3 p.m.
There is no word on the cause of the crash.
