GAINESBORO, VA : Stephens City Teen Killed In Afternoon Crash on Tuesday, 18th October 2016

A 17-year-old Stephens City girl was killed Tuesday when the truck she was driving crashed into a tree, authorities said.

Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. F.L. "Les" Tyler said Cassie Brook Williams was driving a 1994 Ford pickup truck north on North Frederick Pike (U.S. 522) roughly one quarter mile south of Chestnut Grove Road (Va. 681) about 2:40 p.m. when she veered off the side of the highway.

Tyler said the truck came back onto the road and off again as Williams overcorrected, then stuck a tree.

Williams was killed at the scene, Tyler said.

Neither drugs or alcohol are believed to have been factors in the crash, and Williams was wearing her seatbelt, Tyler said.
