Ponchatoula, LA : Passenger killed in head-on crash on Traino Lane early Monday, September 19, 2016
A 22-year-old man died after a head-on traffic crash on Traino Lane in Ponchatoula. Logan Murphy, a passenger in one of the vehicles, was killed and two others were hospitalized after early Monday (Sept. 19) wreck, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office.
A preliminary investigation showed Michael Shawley Jr., 20, was driving a 2015 Toyola Scion west on Traino at high speed when his vehicle crossed the center line while maneuvering a curve and struck a 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck just before 5 a.m. Murphy, a Ponchatoula resident, was a passenger in the Toyota, the Sheriff's Office said. The sole occupant of the pickup was Christopher Barousse, 44, of Madisonville.
All three men were taken to North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, where Murphy died. Shawley remained in the hospital's intensive care unit Tuesday. Barousse sustained moderate injuries and was reported to be in stable condition.
Blood samples were obtained and sent to the Louisiana State Police crime laboratory to determine whether driver impairment was a factor in the crash. Charges are pending, the Sheriff's Office said.
