Tallahassee, FL : A single-vehicle crash on Saturday, July 8, 2017
The Florida Highway Patrol said five people from New Port Richey were injured in a single-vehicle crash Saturday morning on Interstate 75 near Immokalee Road in North Naples.
Elden Delano Darby Jr., 47, was driving south with four passengers in a 2004 Honda Pilot and towing a boat when the rear left tire of the SUV blew out about 11:30 a.m., FHP reported.
The sport utility vehicle overturned and hit a tree. The boat left the trailer and also hit a tree.
Jo Nell Ashby Beck, 77, was ejected from the vehicle. She was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, the report says.
Darby and passengers Trista Corrigan-Darby, 43, Logan Shawn Corrigan, 19, and a 6-year-old girl were taken to hospitals with minor injuries.
I-75 lanes for southbound traffic were blocked, causing traffic delays, but they were reopened not long afterward.
