Bangor, ME : Distracted driving played role in Bangor crash Thursday on July 10, 2014
A Brewer man with a suspended driver’s license was arrested on several charges Thursday afternoon after he crashed his Ford Fusion into a parked car on Third Street, causing his car to tip over onto its side, according to Bangor police.
The crash happened near the intersection with Walter Street at about 2:40 p.m., when John Perkins, 27, of Brewer, struck a Dodge sedan belonging to Paula Raymond, 34, of Bangor, Lt. Cathy Rumsey said.
Neither Perkins nor Raymond, who was sitting in her car when it was struck, were injured, Rumsey said.
Rumsey said the police report indicated Perkins told officers he was trying to plug a cellphone into a charger when the crash occurred.
Perkins was charged with operating after suspension, operating a motor vehicle while distracted and violating the conditions of his release from a previous arrest, Rumsey said.
As of Thursday night, Perkins remained at Penobscot County Jail, where he was being held on $150 bail.
