Pekin, IL : A fiery two-vehicle crash on Wednesday, November, 8th 2017

Citations likely will be filed against the woman who survived a fiery two-vehicle crash Wednesday that killed two other people on Manito Road.

“I would expect them to be,” Tazewell County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jeff Lower said Thursday.

The Tazewell County Coroner’s Office identified the fatal victims as Thomas Williamson, 58, of Tremont, and Austin MacEwan, 19, of Pekin.

The woman, identified by the county Sheriff’s Department as Kathleen Goldring, 70, of Manito, was listed in fair condition Thursday at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Lower said Williamson and MacEwan were returning home from a hunting excursion when the accident took place. Williamson was the father of MacEwan’s girlfriend, Lower said.

Goldring, who was driving alone, was rescued from her Ford Ranger pickup truck by Forman Fire Protection District firefighters who arrived shortly after the accident at about 1:40 p.m. in the 13000 block of Manito Road near Spring Lake School.

The firefighters found the Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck that Williamson was driving fully engulfed in flames. He and MacEwan were pronounced dead at the scene.

Lower said investigation results indicate Goldring’s southbound pickup crossed into the northbound lane and struck the fatal victims’ pickup. The crash took place on a curve in the road governed by a 45-mph speed limit.

“There were no skid marks,” indicating that neither driver applied brakes before the head-on collision, Lower said.

The crash sent both vehicles to the roadside and caused the fatal victims’ pickup to roll onto its top and catch fire.

Manito Road was closed for about five hours around the crash site while an accident reconstruction was conducted. No citations against Goldring had yet been issued Thursday afternoon as the crash investigation continued.
