McAllen, TX : Two die in separate weekend car crashes on Saturday, March 11th 2017
Two people were killed this weekend in two separate automobile crashes in Hidalgo County.
A Ford Expedition collided head-on with a Buick Regal on U.S. Highway 281 near Red Gate. The Buick was traveling southbound on the northbound lanes of Highway 281 when the collision occurred, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The driver of the Buick was pronounced dead at the scene. Four occupants of the Ford, including the driver, were transported to local hospitals by ground EMS. A child passenger in the Ford was airlifted to a local hospital.
The identity of the person killed was not released pending notification of the next of kin.
The second fatal crash occurred Sunday about 11:15 a.m. north of Palmview when a Pontiac Aztek lost control and rolled over as it traveled on Minnesota Road north of 6 Mile Line Road, according to a news release.
One passenger was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, while a second passenger was transported to the hospital with injuries, the DPS said. The drive fled the scene on foot.
The rollover remains under investigation with DPS troopers attempting to locate the driver.
