Akron, OH : Woman killed after running across highway near East Tallmadge Avenue on Monday evening, February 22, 2016

Officials reopened Ohio State Route 8 near East Tallmadge Avenue Monday evening after a woman was hit and killed.

Officials said it happened shortly after 4 p.m. A 43-year-old woman from Canton was in an SUV with her husband when an argument occurred.

She got out of the vehicle and ran across traffic, jumping the cement median. That's when she was struck by a Nissan pickup truck and was killed instantly, according to officials.

The road was closed between Tallmadge Avenue and Howe Road.

Earlier reports indicated it was an apparent suicide, but officials say they are continuing to investigate.

Minor accidents were reported shortly after in the northbound and southbound lanes of Route 8.
