Madison Twp, OH : One person died in fatal crash near the intersection of Dock Road and Cunningham Road on Thursday, July 30, 2015

The Madison Township Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that ended in a fire.Around 10 a.m. Thursday, Ronald Vess Sr. wrecked his 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck near the intersection of Dock Road and Cunningham Road.When officers arrived at the scene they saw smoke and flames coming from the vehicle.Vess was trapped in the backseat of the car, which was fully engulfed in flames.Officers managed to pull Vess out of the vehicle.Vess was transported to the Lake Hospital Emergency Department, where he later died.
Two Madison Township officers were also treated for smoke inhalation and cuts. They were later released.Police say a preliminary investigation shows the vehicle left the right side of the roadway before veering left. Vess then struck a tree and came to a stop in a front yard.The Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Geneva Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor. The crash is still under investigation.The accident is being investigated by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.
