Utah woman hit, killed by car while chasing horses
A West Haven woman was struck and killed by a vehicle while trying to round up two loose horses on a roadway in Weber County.
Sheriff's deputies say the horses escaped from a nearby pasture and ran across the road in West Haven late Friday afternoon, with Lori Peterson and other residents in pursuit.A vehicle struck the 53-year-old Peterson while she was in the middle of the roadway. She was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.The driver of the vehicle, a 55-year-old man from Centerville, was evaluated at the hospital for possible shock and anxiety. His name was not immediately released.Deputies say while the accident is under investigation, they do not suspect the driver committed any traffic violations or was driving impaired.The driver voluntarily submitted to a routine blood draw to determine his blood-alcohol level.The horses, which were not harmed, were eventually rounded up by a neighbor.
