Bogata, TX : DeKalb man dead after a single-vehicle rollover accident on State Highway 37 Saturday night, Oct 3, 2015
A justice of the peace pronounced a DeKalb man dead at the scene of a single-vehicle rollover accident five miles outside of Bogata on State Highway 37 late Saturday night, authorities said.
Michael Lewis Beard, 43, was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, but died on scene, according to Texas Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Sylvia Jennings. Justice of the Peace Shelley Benton confirmed the death, Jennings said.
Beard’s body was taken to Citizens Funeral Home in Clarksville, according to Jennings, and his family has been notified.
David Carr, 63 of Dallas, was driving a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee south in the left lane on State Highway 37, according to Jennings. The vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason, according to the report, and veered to the right, entering the ditch and hitting two trees before rolling several times.
Carr was air-lifted to East Texas Medical Center Tyler in serious condition.
The Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
