Warwick, RI : A 25-year-old man of East Greenwich arrested in multiple hit-and-runs on May 30th 2014
A 25-year-old man was arrested Friday in woods near the Community College of Rhode Island and accused of hit-and-run incidents in several communities, the state police said Saturday morning.
Jose Espada, of East Greenwich, fled the scene of the first crash, involving a car on Route 10 at Reservoir Avenue, early Friday evening behind the wheel of a stolen SUV, state police said.
State police alerted other departments and learned from Providence police that the same vehicle had also sideswiped a car on Broadway in Providence, the police said.
The vehicle also was in another crash on Post Road, near Sand Pond, in Warwick. After that crash, Espada dumped the vehicle near some construction equipment along Route 95, and was seen running across several lanes of traffic into woods near the CCRI campus, the police said.
With information provided by drivers, state police and Warwick police found Espada in the woods.
Espada was charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license and multiple counts of leaving the scene of an accident.
