A Metro school bus carrying a sports team was involved in an accident on Interstate 40 East in Mt. Juliet Wednesday afternoon.

According to the preliminary investigation, the school bus was hit in the back just before 4 p.m. near mile marker 225.

The left lanes were blocked as crews work to clear the scene but reopened just before 5 p.m. Traffic remained backed up for several miles.

Authorities said none of the passengers on the bus were injured. It is unclear which school the sports team belongs to.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the passengers in the car that hit the bus received “very minor injuries.”
