Carlsbad, CA : Elderly Man Killed, Woman Seriously Injured in Daytime Carlsbad Crash on Sunday, November 9, 2014
A man was killed and a woman was hospitalized in serious condition following a single car crash Sunday off Monroe Street near Carlsbad Village Drive in Carlsbad, authorities said.
The car was northbound on Monroe Street just after 9:30 a.m. when it veered across the southbound lanes and crashed into a tree near the 2700 block of Monroe Street, Carlsbad police said.
The 79-year-old female driver suffered major injuries and was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, police said.
The passenger, who police believe was a 91-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity will be determined by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office, police said.
The crash was not suspected to be alcohol-related, police said.
Monroe Street was closed in both directions between Marron Road and Hosp Way pending an investigation and clearing of the scene.
