1 killed in wreck near Andover, the 9th fatal wreck in S.D
An Ortonville, Minn., man was killed in a one-vehicle traffic accident Monday morning near Andover.It was the ninth accident-related fatality in South Dakota in the past week, according to reports from the South Dakota Highway Patrol.Terry Allen Taylor, 55, was westbound on U.S. Highway 12 about 2 miles east of Andover when his pickup left the road on a curve and entered the north ditch, according to a news release from the South Dakota Highway Patrol.The pickup struck a concrete culvert before it stopped, and Taylor, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was dead at the scene, according to the release. The accident was reported 4:30 a.m., but no other information about it was available as of Monday evening, according to the highway patrol.
Four of the people who have died in accidents in the past week were on motorcycles. The annual Sturgis motorcycle rally started Monday and runs through Sunday.A Mobridge man was injured in a crash near Reva, in Harding County, that did not result in a fatality. Casey Spiry, 20, was ejected from a construction road sweeper that was being pulled by a pickup, according to information from the state Department of Public Safety.The accident, which occurred between Sunday morning and 6 a.m. Monday, was on State Highway 20, 3 miles west of Reva. The sweeper was being pulled by a westbound pickup, according to the state.
