Waikapu, HI : Motorcyclist dead after crashing near Waikapu Valley on Saturday, April 1, 2017

A Lahaina man is dead after crashing his motorcycle near Waikapu Valley. Police identified the man as 36-year-old Aaron Matthew Burnett. According to police, Burnett was riding on Kuihelani Highway when he rear ended a Toyota FJ Cruiser travelling in the same direction near Waiko Road. Burnett fell off of his motorcycle and was hit and dragged for a short distance by another car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation reveals Burnett was wearing a helmet at the time. Speed appears to be a factor in the crash. The involvement of drugs or alcohol is under investigation.

This is Maui County's third traffic fatality of 2017 as compared to five at this time this year.
