Oroville, CA : Motorcyclist dies in collision south of Oroville on Wednesday, January, 31st 2018
An Oroville man died Wednesday when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a pickup south of Oroville, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened about 4 p.m. Wednesday on Oro Bangor Highway south of Cole Lane.
Gene Barlow, 60, was driving a 2000 Harley-Davidson south on Oro Bangor Highway and, for reasons unknown, allowed the motorcycle to drift into the oncoming northbound lane, according to the CHP.
Barlow crashed into the left side of a 2004 Ford Ranger and was thrown from his bike. He died at the scene.
The driver of the pickup, Scott German, 35, of Oroville, did not suffer any injuries in the collision.
The CHP said both Barlow and German were driving at appropriate speeds.
A motorcycle helmet was found near the scene, but it was unclear if Barlow had been wearing it properly. The helmet was found unbuckled.
Officers said they had not yet ruled out alcohol or drugs as possible factors in the crash.
