Two Carlsbad men killed in single-vehicle crash

Two men were killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash on a rural road east of Carlsbad Monday afternoon, according to New Mexico State Police.A State Police news release said Ryan Olivo, 22, of Carlsbad was driving a 2013 International truck southbound on County Road 206, also known as Illinois Camp Road, around 4:30 p.m. Monday when he went off the west side of the road and overcorrected, causing the truck to roll and come to a stop on the east side of the highway.
Olivo was pronounced dead at the scene. His two passengers, Will Hendrick and Joshua Gaunt, were taken to an area hospital, where Hendrick was pronounced dead. Gauntt is being treated for his injuries.Investigators said driver inattentiveness, high speed and a failure to wear safety restraints were contributing factors in the crash.
