One woman died when the car she was driving ran off West Street in Ludlow Saturday morning.
Sgt. Daniel Valadas said the 2:30 a.m. crash occurred near the intersection of West and Brook streets when the 2015 Chevy Cruz veered off the right side of the road and slammed into a large tree stump.
Valadas said the woman, who was alone in the vehicle, was found unconscious and was treated by paramedics at the scene, then transported by Ludlow Fire Department Advanced Life Support ambulance to the Baystate Medical Center. The woman received more medical treatment but later died of her injuries.
West Street was closed as the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services investigated the crash.
The Hampden County District Attorney's Office has assumed jurisdiction over the investigation.
