NEWARK, CA : One dead after collision blocks Hwy. 84 lanes on April, Tuesday 4th 2017
The California Highway Patrol issued a traffic alert and was diverting traffic off westbound Highway 84 before the Dumbarton Bridge after a collision involving an apparent wrong-way driver, authorities said late Tuesday.
Just after 10:25 p.m., CHP officers received word of a head-on collision in westbound highway lanes east of Thornton Avenue.
Initial reports from arriving officers said a sedan struck a sport-utility vehicle, and officers called a severe traffic alert at 10:44 p.m.. When officers learned of a fatality at the scene, they called for the Alameda County coroner just before 11 p.m..
Offices were diverting traffic to the Thornton Avenue off-ramp and advising drivers to choose alternate routes, a CHP dispatcher said late Tuesday.
