Barstow, CA : Woman, dog killed in I-15 crash near Baker on Thursday morning, 25th August, 2016
A 64-year-old woman and her dog were killed in a single vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 15 early Thursday morning.
A California Highway Patrol officer responded to a report a little bit before 6:20 a.m. of a vehicle in the open desert off I-15, north of Barstow, and discovered a 2013 Honda Accord that had been involved in a collision.
CHP spokesman Ryan Camara said the woman was traveling northbound, near mile post marker 145, when the Accord traveled across the right-hand shoulder and into the open desert. Then the Honda became airborne after entering a dirt wash and colliding with a raised dirt embankment.
Camara said the Accord landed on its wheels but suffered major front end damage. The woman and her small dog were pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.
CHP traffic logs Thursday morning reported that the car may have “possibly been there a while” and Camara said the time of the collision was unknown Thursday morning.
Camara said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor and the crash remains under investigation. The agency is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the Barstow area CHP office at 760-255-8700.
