Wellsboro, PA : Tioga County man killed from injuries in a single-vehicle crash in Delmar Township on Saturday, May 21, 2016
A Wellsboro man is dead after a single vehicle car crash early Saturday morning.
Police say Corey A. Starkweather, 26, was killed when the vehicle he was driving left Stony Fork Road in Delmar Township in Tioga County, Pennsylvania. He was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.
Starkweather was traveling at a "high rate of speed" southbound on Stony Fork Road also known as State Route 3007 — when he failed to negotiate a slight left-hand curve around 1:36 a.m. Saturday, Pennsylvania State Police at Mansfield report.
Starkweather then swerved back onto the road when the 2008 Ford Focus began to slide and spin across both lanes of traffic for approximately 153 feet, according to a news release.
The Ford Focus then left the road on the east side and struck a ditch.
The force of the impact dislodged the engine, which came to rest next to the tree, police said.
Starkweather was pronounced dead at the scene by deputy Tioga County Coroner Jim Daugherty.
Wellsboro Volunteer Fire Company assisted at the scene.
