Opelika,AL :Georgia woman dies in crash near Rockford on December, Friday 22nd 2017

A fatal single-vehicle crash was reported Friday near Rockford.

Barbara Vassallo, 87, of Acworth, Ga., was killed after the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox in which she was a passenger left the roadway and struck several trees before overturning, according to a release from Alabama State Troopers.

Vassallo was pronounced dead a short time later at a nearby hospital. The driver, Eugene Vassallo, 83, of Acworth was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries, Troopers said.

The crash, reported at 8:55 a.m. Friday, occurred on Alabama 22 near the 95 mile marker, approximately three miles west of Rockford.
