Olympia, WA : A Vancouver woman was hurt and a man arrested after a hit-and-run crash on Thursday, July 6, 2017

A Vancouver woman was hurt and a man arrested after a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 5 near 39th Street, then an attempted escape from a hospital, Thursday afternoon.

According to the Washington State Patrol, 36-year-old Petr V. Ryabiy and 41-year-old Consuelo Gonzalez Sanabria, both of Vancouver, were heading north on Interstate 5 near 39th Street around 2 p.m.

Both were in the right lane. Ryabiy, the state patrol said, fell asleep at the wheel and collided with Gonzalez Sanabria’s minivan. He then lost control of his car and hit the rear of a pickup towing a trailer, driven by Willis O. Whitehead, 30, of Eatonville, who was in the center lane.

The state patrol said Ryabiy continued northbound and took the Main Street exit, after which he tried to go east on Ross Street and collided with a third vehicle. The Vancouver police were investigating that crash.

After authorities caught up with him, Ryabiy complained of an injury and was taken to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center.

According to the state patrol, he fled without getting medical attention and was apprehended shortly after.

The state patrol said Ryabiy’s driving while sleepy led to the crash. He was arrested pending charges of hit and run, reckless driving, resisting arrest, driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance.

Gonzalez Sanabria was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. Her condition was not available.
