Grand Island, NE : Boy avoids serious injury after float accident in parade on Sunday, 2nd October 2016
A 3-year-old boy escaped serious injury after being run over by a small float near the end of the Harvest of Hamorny Parade route near Third and Sycamore.
Sgt. Tony Keiper of the Grand Island Police Department said the boy was part of the float. He said an adult on the float allowed the boy to get off the float to throw candy to children along the parade route. The woman believed the boy was with her but when she looked, she discovered the boy had gone back to the float and grapped the skirting on the side of the float. Keiper said the float was moving very slowly, about two miles per hour. He said the officer who investigated the accident could see a tire mark across the boy’s shirt, which is how he knew the float had run over him. Keiper said the float was a very small one, which helped the boy avoid injuries.
