Parsons, W.V : Driver severely injured after collision with state trooper on Tuesday, January 24, 2017
A Tucker County accident severely injured a motorist this week after a collision with a West Virginia State Police cruiser.
The accident happened at 11:46 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. 219, when Cpl. D.W. Burge was traveling south. The driver of a 2008 Honda Civic was traveling north when he lost control of the vehicle and slid into Burge’s cruiser, striking the passenger side, according to information provided by 1st Lt. Michael T. Baylous, public information officer for the West Virginia State Police office in Charleston.
The roadway was slick and there was heavy fog, Baylous said, and both Burge and the driver of the Honda Civic were transported to Davis Medical Center in Elkins.
He said Burge had minor injuries, but the other driver was transferred to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown with “severe trauma.”
Baylous said Wednesday evening he didn’t have an updated condition on the other driver.
Tucker County 911 Emergency Medical Services received the emergency call, and EMS workers responded to the scene, along with volunteers from Company 10 of Parsons, Company 40 of Thomas, the Tucker County Sheriff’s Department, workers from the West Virginia Division of Highways and the West Virginia State Police.
Police have not released the name of the injured driver of the Honda Civic; however, social media posts indicate his name is Daniel Tyler Moore. His mother, Holly Ferguson, posted on Facebook that Moore was in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.
