Safford,AL : 1 dies in St. Florian wreck on August, Thursday 31th 2017
One person was killed in a Thursday afternoon wreck on Butler Creek Road, authorities said.
Lauderdale County Deputy Coroner Max Williams confirmed he pronounced a 40-year-old woman dead at the scene. He said she died instantly from blunt force trauma when her car went out of control.
Her name is being withheld because as of late Thursday authorities were still contacting her next of kin.
The wreck was reported at 2:20 p.m., said George Grabryan, director of the Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency.
Brandon Strait, chief of the Mid-Lauderdale Volunteer Fire Department, said the wreck occurred on Butler Creek Road, behind Big Star grocery store.
It was approximately one mile from Lauderdale 47, Strait said.
He said two vehicles were involved in the wreck.
The victim was trapped in the vehicle. Williams said she was pronounced after emergency workers extricated her from the car.
Emergency workers remained on the scene for several hours during off-and-on downpours to investigate and clear the scene.
A fire engine blocked the Lauderdale 61 path to the wreck, while emergency workers redirected traffic from the scene.
This was the 30th fatal wreck in the region of northwest Alabama and southern Tennessee counties of Wayne and Lawrence.
It was the fourth August fatality, but first since Aug. 12.
There were 23 fatalities in the region at this time last year. The total amount of fatal wrecks in 2016 was 37.
