Zachary, LA : Mississippi man dies in crash on U.S. 61 near Baton Rouge on Sunday, June 28, 2015

Louisiana State Police say a Mississippi man was thrown from his pickup truck and died when he ran off U.S. 61 near Zachary, Louisiana, and hit a culvert.

Trooper First Class Bryan Lee, a state police spokesman, says 44-year-old Steven Byrd of Woodville, Mississippi, was not wearing a seat belt.

He says investigators don't know why his 2014 Chevrolet Silverado ran off a left-hand curve about 1 a.m. Sunday, as Byrd traveled south.

He died at the scene north of Louisiana Highway 64.

Lee says investigators don't know whether Byrd was intoxicated, but took a blood sample for routine toxicology analysis.

Zachary is in East Baton Rouge Parish. It's about 30 miles south-southeast of Woodville, or about a 45-minute drive.
