Lafayette, LA : Elton man killed in 2-vehicle crash at Bryan Road and La. 395 near Roanoke on Tuesday night, March 1, 2016
One person was killed and three others were injured after a two-vehicle crash near Roanoke last night.
According to State Police, troopers responded about 8 p.m. Tuesday to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Bryan Road and La. 395.
Police said a 24-year-old Elton woman was driving east on Bryan Road and failed to stop at a stop sign.
A truck driven by a Jennings man struck the woman's car as it entered the intersection.
A passenger in the woman's car, 25-year-old Kevin Daigle of Elton, was ejected and later died from his injuries at a Lafayette hospital.
The driver of the car that ran the stop sign was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The driver and her passenger were not wearing seat belts. A 2-year-old in the car was restrained and was moderately injured.
Toxicology samples were taken at the scene and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
Louisiana law requires motorists to wear a seat belt in every seating position, front seat and back seat, day and night. While every crash is not survivable, wearing a seat belt is the most effective thing vehicle occupants can do to minimize the risk of injury in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to make the smart choice and to always wear their seat belt.
Troop D has investigated eight fatal crashes resulting in 11 fatalities this year including three fatal crashes involving failure to yield the right-of-way at an intersection in the last five days.
