A car ran off the road about 5:45 p.m. Thursday in the 5100 block of Indiana 25 South and its driver walked away from the crash and into some woods, witnesses reportedly told Tippecanoe County sheriff's deputies.
With the help of a conservation officer and his K9, deputies caught up with Wendella Sue Hanson, whom deputies believe was the driver of the crashed car, according to sheriff's office reports.
Hanson, 45, of the 600 block of Asher Street in Lafayette, failed a field sobriety test and fought with deputies when they tried to handcuff her, according to deputies' reports.
Deputies booked her into the Tippecanoe County Jail later Thursday night on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated causing endangerment and driving while intoxicated with a prior conviction. She also is suspected of possessing a controlled substance and resisting law enforcement, according to jail book-in records.
