Crossville, TN : A grinding three-vehicle crash on Monday, June 26, 2017
A grinding three-vehicle crash Monday night sent two persons to the hospital with one flown to a regional trauma center. The wreck occurred where Pomona Rd. and W. Creston Rd. connect with Hwy. 70 N.
Cody James Collins, 24, Edgewater, FL, was taken by ambulance to the Crossville Speedway where he was then air-lifted to The University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville in critical condition. It has been reported that his condition has slightly improved overnight.
A passenger in the car Collins was driving — a female — was taken by ambulance to Cumberland Medical Center for treatment of lacerations and abrasions. Driver of one of the other vehicles suffered a thumb injury but declined medical treatment at the scene.
The crash is under investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol but preliminary report states that a 2006 Mercury driven by Collins attempted to cross Hwy. 70 N from Pomona Rd. to W. Creston Rd. and entered the highway in front of an oncoming 2001 Dodge Ram pickup driven by David Otto of the Crossville area, according to Trooper Al Seitner.
The impact was on the driver’s side door and caused the car to then be struck on the opposite side by a 1988 Suzuki Trooper driven by Keith Martin. The Trooper was pulling a trailer and fishing boat.
Cumberland County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene as did Sgt. Jeff Cook and Trooper Jacob Groce.
Collins was quickly extricated from the vehicle and rushed to the round track where a helicopter landed to rush him to the UT hospital.
Seitner said citations are pending in connection with the crash.
